Hiring: Illustrator

We’re looking for an Illustrator that thrives not just on creativity, but on the satisfaction of applying an illustration system across multiple channels efficiently and with consistency. This is a production-focused role, working exclusively with the Maths – No Problem! brand. The illustration style is well-established, and you would be working within existing guidelines whilst creating new work.

Maths – No Problem! is best known for their math textbook/workbook series for elementary aged students in the UK, and is a global company. You do not need to be good at math for this role, but you must have a solid knowledge of the print process, digital delivery and design/illustration systems. You must also have a keen eye for detail – nuance counts.

The Illustrator’s main role will be to create illustrations that perfectly replicate the artwork style of existing elementary math textbooks and workbooks. The textbook series is a premium product with a distinctive style, including characters, flora, fauna, animals and objects.
  • Create illustrations for the textbook and workbooks series, from full scenes to single items, in both colour and grayscale
  • Edit and re-purpose existing illustrations from the series
  • Regionalize illustrations for different countries
  • Develop new artwork, styles and characters as needed
  • Apply isometric techniques to add perspective to illustrations
  • Ensure illustrations support learning requirements like colour-blindness
  • Adhere to style guide requirements and apply consistency across the series
  • Liaise with editors, authors, designers, project managers and external companies
  • Update layouts in InDesign and deliver pdfs to specification
  • Support the development and maintenance of a master illustration library
  • Maintain best-practices in file management and naming standards
  • Maintain and update the Master Style Guide

A seasoned illustrator that can work independently in a fast-paced environment.  
  • Expert working with vector-based illustrations in Adobe Illustrator
  • InDesign skills required, Photoshop experience preferred but not essential 
  • Meticulous, detailed oriented and an excellent communicator 
  • Strong conceptual and artistic skills
  • Strong portfolio of illustration work
  • Experience as a commercial Illustrator
